Searchable Fields
Let's start with your Media items in the library! At the very top level, you can search for Media series by title, then if we look at the basic info of a Media item:
The following fields will be indexed in search:
Title
Subtitle
Speaker
Topic
Tags play a big part in search and discoverability, we will go into more about how they work below but here is an article about how to add tags.
Fill in these fields with intentionality, to ensure that your audience can find what they're looking for when they need it most.
App Search
Media search within your app can be found in the top right corner of the app header:
It will first present the user with a search bar where they can begin typing and a list below will begin to filter in any related content based on the searchable fields shared in the first section of this article.
App search will only index items that are within the app, it will not index your entire media library (unless your whole Media Library is available via your app)
Below the search bar, you will see your "Browse by" section which is split up conveniently by your tags! Each tag category can be gone into and further filtered by your created Topics, Speakers, or Scriptures.
Note: Only the tags that are used by media items within your app are shown here; for example, if you have created topic tags "Faith", "Hope", "Love", and "Prayer", but the media item tagged with "Prayer" isn't accessible in any list or series in your app, then the "Prayer" tag will not be displayed alongside the others. However, if you later add that media item to one of the series or lists available in your app, then the "Prayer" tag will be added to the catalog of available tags in the search interface!
You can use a few different methods to make sure your media is in your app and indexing in search:
Lists and Media Series on The Build Your Own tab
Pick and choose the media items or media series you wish to display in your app by manually adding them to a list/tab. This gives you full control over your content but remember to add new media when you are uploading!
Personalized Media Experience
A new take on our famous Media tab that automatically filters in your Media items and even shows users' suggested content and their media history.
Linking to a SnapPages-built page with Media on it (NEW)
SnapPages offers a very unique integration with a Subsplash app and we have set up Media and Media search in a way that takes full advantage of it. After building your page, follow the steps in How to Bring SnapPages Content to Your App to link your page as its own tab or within a tab as a link item. To ensure app search is indexing the content within these pages you have to be sure to use one or multiple of the following words in your page titles/URL slugs:
"Media" - /media
"Sermons" - /sermons
"Archives" - /archives
"Mobile" - /mobile
These 4 should set you up to use existing pages or build app-specific pages by including "mobile" in your page title. Here are some examples:
Web Search
Very similar to app media search, the web version will only index what is within the selected content source. Embeds for third-party websites and Blocks for SnapPages are controlled by content sources, this could be set to your entire media library, only media items within a media series, a specific media series, a list, etc. However, if you decide to configure it just keep in mind only Media within that content source is going to be searchable.
Search will be found in the top right of either your embed or media library block. At this time search can only be turned off within the block (this can be done within the block settings), if embedding your media library on a third-party platform search will always show.
Very similar to app search, you will see the ability to filter by your tags or type into the search bar to find media items.
Note: Just like with the mobile app search, only the tags for media items accessible through your web library are shown here. For an example, see the note in the App Media Search section of this article above!
Known Issues
Search can be troublesome if items are not getting indexed properly which is by far the biggest issue. If you find that media items are not being indexed try the following:
Adjust your web app content source and set it to "Media Library" with the content type being "Media Items". The web app powers all things media so by changing this it will reindex all media items. It will take up to an hour for indexing to complete.
If still you have media items not showing in search and you are sure they are within the content source of the web/structure of the app then you can alter any one of the searchable fields mentioned in the first section of the article, then save. Much like the first solution, this will re-index this specific item and after an hour it will show again in search.
