Documents

Subsplash will need to collect the organization’s full SIN, BN/Registration number, and proof of the organization’s status as a charity registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) in the form of a document or URL.

Linking a Depository Bank Account

When linking your bank to the Subsplash Dashboard in Step 4 of the Welcome page, follow these directions:

  1. The routing number field will be a combination of a leading zero, the three-digit financial institution number, and the five-digit transit number. This information can be found in a checkbook, on the bank’s website, or by calling your bank.

    • Routing number format: 0YYYXXXXX

      • 0 = leading zero

      • YYY = institution number

      • XXXXX = branch transit number

  2. The Business Tax ID (Business Number) field will consist of the first nine digits of the 15-digit Program Account Number assigned by the Canada Revenue Agency. The CRA considers your Business Number the business tax ID number. Subsplash Giving only needs the Business Number!

    • Program account number format: 123456789XY4444

      • 123456789 = the nine-digit Business Number (Tax ID)

      • XY = a two-letter identifier for the program type

      • 4444 = a four-digit reference number for the program account.

Remember, Subsplash Giving only needs the first nine digits of the BN, no spaces, and no dashes.

Tax Receipts

Subsplash created its tax receipts using an example from the CRA website, while combining an actual receipt shared by a Canadian client. All end-of-year Canadian tax receipts will include, as per Canada Revenue Agency requirements:

  • a statement that it is an official receipt for income tax purposes

  • the name and address of the charity as on file with the CRA

  • a unique serial number

  • the registration number issued by the CRA

  • the location where the receipt was issued (city, town, municipality)

  • the date or year the gift was received

  • the date the receipt was issued

  • the full name, including middle initial, and address of the donor

  • the amount of the gift

  • the amount and description of any advantage received by the donor

  • the signature of an individual authorized by the charity to acknowledge gifts

  • the name and website address of the CRA
