The search bar is designed to make it easy for you to identify your search terms. We’ve worked hard to make the search bar intuitive and straightforward. Knowing the following details will help you understand how it works.
Boxed Search Phrases
The search bar displays boxes around each search phrase, which makes it simple to see where a phrase begins and ends. Your search phrases appear as text while you're typing, but once you click out of the search bar, they become boxed. Measures are shown in green, Attributes are in blue, Dates (that also function as measures) are in purple, and Filters are gray.
Chart Builder on Enter
Trends AI’s default search experience is search on enter. This means you can add new items to the search bar or remove them without changing your existing search until you press Enter on your keyboard or select Go to the right of the search bar. You may need to press Enter or Go to ensure Trends AI updates your search with any new items you’ve added.
Editing a Search
You can edit a search without affecting existing results. When you select a search phrase, it is highlighted, and Trends AI displays other suggestions you can choose from to replace the highlighted phrase. When you hover over a boxed phrase, you’ll see an x, which you can select to remove the phrase from the search. You can insert a new phrase in the middle of a search by clicking between phrases and entering the new phrase. You can even merge phrases without breaking the search. As you edit your search, Trends AI continuously generates new results.
If you are viewing a chart or table and it seems to be missing data you expected, check the search bar for filters in gray boxes. If you remove all the filters, you will once again see all the available data for that search.
Quick Select Search Results
When you type search phrases in the search bar, the first suggestion is automatically highlighted, and you can use Tab to navigate further. Additionally, after you type a phrase or a letter and press Enter, the highlighted suggestion is automatically selected. Suggestions can include an attribute, measures, value, keyword, historic query, or the exact phrase you typed. You can also press Enter or Tab to select the first suggestion. If no suggestions are available, the suggestion list won’t be displayed. Historic suggestions always show up at the top, with the first suggestion highlighted by default.
Spell Check
The search bar includes a spell check feature. If you misspell a term, your suggestions will include the correct spelling of the term or keyword.
The spell check in the search bar also performs a metaphone check for similar-sounding words on text data values.
Dictionary Synonyms
A dictionary of common word synonyms is included with Trends AI. This dictionary contains synonyms for frequently occurring terms in your data. For example, if you type "gross" and that word isn’t found in your data, Trends AI will consider it a synonym for "revenue." We use the WordNet library of terms, which considers word proximity and weights words based on similarity to the target term.
This feature means you don't need to know the exact term or column name used in a data source. You can still often find the right answer even if you type a word with the same meaning as a different word that exists in the data.
Search Help
If you enter an unrecognized search term, Trends AI offers tips on searching. This helpful guidance appears when you type a term that Trends AI doesn’t understand and then press the Enter key.
