This feature allows you to move easily from a general overview of your information to a more specific representation of the data behind a particular data point with a single click.
For example, in an amount by transaction date search, you might observe that the month of August has the highest transaction amount by dollar. You can then drill down on that month by End user UUID to discover exactly which end users contributed to those high numbers. You can continue to drill down in the data until you run out of relevant dimensions.
You can drill down in both tables and chart visualizations, on both standalone Charts and on Charts within Boards. When drilling down on charts within boards, you can either drill down directly or use the AI Analysis view. AI Analysis provides a flexible, AI-guided exploration of a chart within a board.
Drill Down on a Chart
Right-click the chart object (such as a column on a bar chart or a section of a pie chart) or data point of interest in your Chart.
Select Drill down.
A list of measures and attributes appears. Select any of the options to gain deeper insight into your data.
Your browser’s back button does not work to go back one step; whenever you click it, it will take you back to your Trends Home page.
Drill Down within a Board
When you drill down on a chart within a board, the process is similar to drilling down on the chart itself.
You can also go back to the last point the chart was saved using the reset button. The reset button is in the upper-right-hand corner next to the undo button.
Drill Down with AI Analysis
You can also drill down using the AI Analysis feature. AI analysis provides an AI-guided exploration of a chart within a board. When you drill down normally in the classic board experience, you cannot go back one step at a time to see an earlier version of your visualization. You must manually delete filters from the search bar or start your search again. If you drill down with AI analysis or in the new board experience, you can use the go back one step feature. As you drill down on a chart using AI analysis, use the back arrow to go back one step at a time. Select the reset icon to return to the original chart.
Drill Down on a Date Column
When you add a date filter to a search that includes a date column, Trends will naturally override the date column. To preserve the date column in your search, we recommend creating a formula that contains the date column, then adding the filter.
For example, consider a search for amount total number of donations per individual last name first name transaction date between 01/01/2022 and 12/31/2025. If you then filter on month of year = 1, the transaction date column is removed from your search. However, if you create a formula defining the transaction date as between 01/01/2022 and 12/31/2025, then add the filter for month of year = 2, the transaction date data remains in your search.
Save and Share Your New Chart
When you find a valuable insight using the drill down feature, you will want to save that chart instead of recreating the search query in chart builder later.
Select the More menu icon (3 dots).
Select Make a copy.
Save your new chart and continue working with it.
Alternatively, select Download to download an image of your current visualization.
You can also share the Chart by selecting the sharing icon. Otherwise, the chart will revert to its original state when you exit the page.
Share Your Data
If you own a board or chart, you can drill down to the data beneath it. Users with whom you share a board or chart can also drill down, provided they also have access to the underlying data source on which the board was based. If you do not have access to a board or chart's underlying data source, you cannot drill down. See the overview of sharing to share your charts, boards, or data.
