Unfortunately, YouTube videos are not compatible with the native Subsplash media player. This is because YouTube does not provide direct links to files, only webpage links that allow users to watch videos on YouTube webpages. Many platforms, especially free ones such as YouTube, want to keep users on their platform and therefore intentionally don't provide direct file links.

Some video hosting services, such as Vimeo, provide direct file links to videos because these direct file links are offered as a part of their service. Because YouTube is free, they reserve the right to not expose those direct links in order to keep users on their platform. In YouTube's case, keeping users on their platform is how they make money through ad revenue.

However, if YouTube were to start providing direct file links, you could use them with the Subsplash media player.

What Should I Use Instead of YouTube Links?

When you upload your media to Subsplash, it's automatically optimized for all mobile platforms. Your Subsplash package includes plenty of hosting, so hosting with us is an easy solution! To see how much hosting is included with your package, head to Library > Media. You will see your upload limit at the top of the page.
