Subsplash will only serve as your website host. If you are not sure who is hosting your domain name, check out the FAQ section below for instructions on how you can determine where your domain is being hosted. We also included guided tutorials for domain hosts popular with our clients, those include, WIX, GoDaddy, Google Domain, Network solutions, and more.

Connect your custom domain

Updating DNS records through your Domain Host

Go through your current domain registrar (usually where your domain was purchased) and update the DNS records, specifically the A-Records so that they point to our IP address: 35.164.64.246.

Search for "Advance DNS" "Manage DNS" and "Manage Host Records" if you are not able to locate where to modify your a-records through your domain host.

Depending on how your domain registrar works, you may need to set up (or edit) two A-Records, the root records we are looking for are going to be titled "@" and "WWW"

Example image of what your a-records should look like.

Add your domain to your Website

Once your DNS records are updated, go to your SnapPages (on the Subsplash dashboard Web -> Website) and navigate to Settings > Domain Names > Select 'Connect a Domain Name'

image.png

You'll then be prompted to input your custom domain. Once added, the custom domain will be displayed in the domain list. Navigate into your newly added domain by clicking on the domain in the list, where you'll then see the status of the domain.

If your domain status is 'Active' and your DNS records report as a green status, your site is Live!

Enable SSL

You'll then want to secure your site by activating the SSL certificate toggle.
For any further help with securing your site, please visit our How do I secure my site knowledge article.

Set your Primary Domain with SnapPages

Lastly, while on the SnapPages dashboard, navigate to Settings > SEO and set your Primary Domain. Setting your primary domain will forward all traffic (users) to use the specified domain.

While it can take up to 24 to 48 hours for the domain to begin pointing to your site, it typically happens immediately. If your domain is not pointing correctly after the timeframe, please contact our support team and we’ll be happy to help!

If you see a number after NS that is different from the number in the screenshot, that is okay, you just want to make sure that it is still going to worldnic.com

Setting up your DNS records

You will need to set up One A-Record that will be titled the @ symbol. Set this record with the value (35.164.64.246) to ensure the connection works properly.

Host: WWW | Data: 35.164.64.246

If you receive an error when adding www to the A record, you may need to delete the CNAME record containing www.yourdomain.com in the data portion of the record.

If this is a brand new Squarespace domain, you may encounter pre-existing "Squarespace Defaults" records that will need to be deleted before you can add custom records.

These records will interfere with your domain connection and may appear in the SnapPage dashboard, as in the example below.

5. Log in to your Subsplash dashboard and navigate to Web > Website to enter your SnapPages site.

Select Settings -> Domain Names. Select Connect a Domain Name. Enter your domain name and if your domain is active then enable the SSL.

FAQ

Unable to edit the WWW record

In some cases, you'll need to delete an already existing c-name record for the "WWW" host.
You'll set these records with the same value (35.164.64.246) to ensure the connection works properly.

Unable to Modify A-records

If you are unable to modify your a-records, most likely your domain is being controlled through another service. This is common if you are pointing to custom nameservers. In this case, we would recommend reaching out to your domain host for further instructions on how you can start using their default nameservers.

Our emails are not working after switching domain hosts.

If your emails are not working after switching domain hosts, please get in contact with your domain host to make sure the proper MX records are configured. Making changes to the A-records should interfere with emails.

Do you host our domain?

Subsplash / SnapPages is not a domain host.

We don't know who is hosting our domain.

If you are not sure who is hosting your domain, you can use an online tool to check the DNS records. This will you give a clear indicator of who is hosting your domain.
Here is a tool we often use for looking up domain hosts: https://mxtoolbox.com/DNSLookup.aspx. Just type in your domain name and you should see who is hosting your domain.

I need to transfer my domain from FaithLife

If you received an Authorization code from Faithlife, that code allows you to transfer your domain to a new Domain Host.

Unfortunately, we do not host domains on our platform, we simply point them to your site from your domain host. It is like a post office when you move to a new address: you don't change from the company, but you simply tell them that you need your address changed.

In this case, we would have to look at a different domain host to transfer the domain to. We usually recommend either GoDaddy or Google domains since they are the easiest to navigate, have fair pricing, and can also easily have your own domain-specific emails set up.

Check out the following articles below on how to transfer to either one.

Google Domains transfer article
GoDaddy domains transfer article

Once you have transferred your domain, please follow the steps listed above in this article or watch one of our guided tutorials on the specific domain host.
