Subsplash Podcasts continues the trend of making your life easier by allowing you to manage your content quickly and easily from a single place.

Choose your content source

When first setting up your Podcast, it is important to know where your content will be coming from. With Subsplash Podcasts, you can select any Media Series or List as the content source of your Podcast. We tend to recommend using a list or the smart list as your source, as it provides the most flexibility.

The smart list will automatically pull in your Media content from your Library based on the filters you have set.

A list will give you full control over the content of the Podcast as it allows you to pick and choose media items or series. This is a great option if you have a Media library with multiple types of content, multiple podcasts, or multiple ministries.

You can set up your list by following these steps:

  1. From your Dashboard navigate to Library > Lists.

  2. Locate your list on this page or Create List to create a brand new list.

  3. If you have your Media uploaded in your Dashboard, then we recommend adding a few media items or series to start.

If creating a new list, we recommend titling it something obvious, like "Podcast Content" or "Name of Podcast".

Create your Podcast & Feed URL

Now that you've verified your content source for your podcast, it's time to create your podcast and the correlating feed URL. Follow the steps below:

  1. Select Media > Podcasts in the Builder Menu and click Create Podcast.

  2. Fill out all of the basic info and provide artwork for your podcast.

  3. Choose the list or media series you want to use as the source for your podcast.

  4. Be sure to save!

Submit your podcast

Once you select Save when creating your podcast, a Podcast Feed URL will be automatically generated. This URL will need to be submitted to a podcast distributor, like Apple/iTunes, Spotify, etc. for your content to show up within various podcast apps and websites. It is this URL that allows your distributor to pull in any new content into their system from Subsplash.

Your Subsplash Podcast feed will be supported by any podcast distributor out there but below are a few of our favorites. Select your distributor of choice and follow along with the steps to submit your podcast successfully:

iTunes/Apple

  1. Travel to Apple’s Podcast Connect and log in using a valid Apple ID. (You might consider creating a new ID specifically for your church or organization to manage these podcasts.)

  2. If you're replacing a pre-existing podcast, select the existing podcast you'd like to update. If you are creating a new podcast, select the + sign in the top left-hand corner of the page.

  3. Paste your Feed URL into the URL field.

  4. Click Validate to check that your podcast feed is set up with working, viable content.

  5. Click Submit and iTunes will review your podcast.

  6. Wait for your podcast to be approved. Wait times for getting your podcast approved on iTunes can be as long as 3 weeks or as quick as 30 minutes. Once your podcast has been reviewed by someone at Apple (yes, someone actually looks at and/or listens to your podcast) you will receive an email telling you that your podcast has been accepted. The same email will contain very important information about your show such as links that you can use to find your show on the web and on iTunes.

  7. After approval, search for your podcast in iTunes, or within the Podcasts app on iOS, and enjoy!

Spotify

  1. Click here to get started.

  2. Paste in the link to your podcast's RSS feed.

  3. Add podcast info like the category, language, and country.

  4. Review the details and submit.

YouTube

Google Podcasts has been deprecated and replaced by YouTube podcasts as of June 2024.

Submitting an RSS feed on YouTube

  1. In YouTube Studio, click Create > New podcast > Submit RSS feed.

  2. Read and accept the RSS Ingestion Tool Terms of Service.

  3. Read the instructions on screen and click Next.

  4. Enter your RSS feed URL and click Next.

  5. Click Send code to verify your account.

  6. Enter the verification code sent to the email address on your RSS feed and click Verify.

  7. Choose which episodes you want to upload to your podcast on YouTube and click Next. You can choose to upload:

    1. All existing episodes

    2. Episodes published since a specific date

    3. Only future episodes

  8. Review visibility details and click Save.

Publish podcasts from your RSS feed

After you set up your feed, it may take a few days for your episodes to upload. You'll get an email when your podcast is ready to be published, however, your podcast will not be published until you follow the steps below.

To publish a feed,

  1. In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Podcasts.

  2. Under Video count, click Publish next to your podcast feed. This button will only appear when your podcast episodes have finished uploading.

After you publish, your podcast and any new episodes will become public to anyone on YouTube. You can change these settings on the Podcast details page. Learn how to edit your default video visibility in the next section.

Edit podcast details

If the podcast details delivered in your RSS feed are missing or incorrect, you can edit them from the Podcast details page.

  1. In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Podcasts.

  2. Hover over the podcast you’d like to edit and select Details .

  3. On the Podcast details page, update any of the following settings:

    1. Titles

    2. Descriptions

    3. Video visibility

    4. Default video order

    5. RSS settings

  4. Click Save when complete.

TuneIn

  1. Travel to TuneIn’s contact page to submit your podcast to the TuneIn system. You just need to fill out their form and submit.

  2. Wait for approval. If you have further questions, you can also check out TuneIn’s article for this here.

Video Podcasts

Video podcasts, also known as vodcasts, are simply podcasts with some sort of video element alongside audio. Major podcast distributors like iTunes and Spotify support vodcasts as an alternative way to consume content. Subsplash makes it easy to convert your podcast feed and set your preference to be video over audio, here's how to do so.

Head to your Dashboard and navigate to Media > Podcasts, here you will see any podcasts that you have created using content in your Dashboard. If you do not have a podcast created yet check out the article content above as it is required before you can convert it!

Find the podcast you want to convert and your very last option will be Media type. The default will always be set to audio and if you wish to change it go ahead and toggle it to video then hit save in the top right.

For podcast stores that do not support video podcasts, this change may cause playback issues. A workaround would be to create a second podcast that uses the same content source through your dashboard that way you have one for audio and one for video, then submit the audio podcast feed to the stores that do not support video podcasts.

Your RSS feed will update immediately but it may take up to 24 hours for the podcast stores to refresh and look for new changes in your feed.

Working with pre-existing podcasts

If you're moving from a previous podcast provider, there are a few things you will want to take into consideration when migrating to Subsplash:

  • If you already have an existing iTunes podcast, here’s a link to the official Apple Support form that you can use to swap out an existing Podcast feed URL for your Subsplash podcast feed URL: Update your RSS feed URL

    • While the iTunes documentation recommends using a "new feed url" tag to migrate subscribers, we have found that this is not necessarily needed for all of our clients.

  • Be aware that if you swap out your existing podcast feed with the Subsplash podcast feed, your new feed will overwrite your existing podcast episodes.

    • In this case, you’ll want to upload each episode of your existing podcast to the Dashboard as media items or take advantage of our Podcast Import tool

We do offer an RSS Reader feature in the app builder but this supports text and images only, it is not designed to read podcast feed tags.
