Create dedicated groups to organize, communicate, and share with your communities and service teams through messages, prayer requests, Bible passages, and much more.

Whether on your website or mobile app, your groups can chat from anywhere through Messaging. To get started with Subsplash Groups, you’ll want to make sure you are signed up for Subsplash messaging (Learn more).

Creating a Group

Jump into Groups under the Groups Tab on the Subsplash dashboard and select “New Group” in the upper-right-hand corner of the page.

Once your group is created, you can add a description for the group, add managers, add members, change the group type, make the group public, and restrict invites to only managers through the Groups details page.

Adding People to Your Group

You can start adding members to your group just by typing in their names under the Member’s section of the group page. If the user has previously signed in to your app or been created by another admin, their name will automatically be available to choose from the drop-down. Just select their name and they will be added to the group.

If the user has not created an account on your app, you can still invite them to the group! Begin typing in their name and select “Add a profile for” and create a profile for the member, once they do create an account, they will automatically see the groups they are in.

Note: You will need to make sure they log in with the email you assigned the profile to.

Managing Your Group

On a user’s people profile, you’ll be able to quickly identify what groups of which they are a member and what groups of which they are a manager.

Also through the user’s People Profile, you’ll be able to add groups directly from their profile!

Group Types

Within Groups, you can easily designate a group to a specific type. Simply select the group, and on the left side of the group view, select the "Type" dropdown and select the type of group it is.

Group Visibility and Enrollment Settings

Within Groups, you can choose various settings for the visibility and Enrollment settings.

Visibility

Public - Anyone can find and learn more about this group.

Private - People can only find this group if invited.

Enrollment

Open - Anyone can join this group.

Request to join - People must request to join this group. Once a user makes the request, the Group Manager will be able to Approve or Deny the request.

Closed - Only group managers can invite people to closed groups.

Group Gathering Details

Available in app version 6.12+

Admins & Group Managers can set gathering details for their group in the dashboard, web, & mobile app:

  • Frequency (Daily, Weekly, Every 2 weeks, & Monthly)

  • Day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, etc.)

App users can use filters on the Group Finder page to identify groups that match their desired frequency or day(s).

App users can see schedule details on the group details page before joining or contacting a group manager.

Admin Functions

Admin Group search

Admins are able to search throughout their groups by name or by group type.

Admin Announcements

Admins are able to make announcements that target specific groups. Members in those groups can view the announcement in line with their other messages, react to it, or respond in a thread.

You can select “Create Announcement” in the upper right-hand corner to begin composing a new announcement.

Admins will not be able to respond to users if the admin is not in the group as well. Announcements may take up to 10 minutes to arrive in Messaging. Currently, Announcements do not send a notification to a group member's device.

Deleting a Group

Select the three dots on the right side of the Group and select "Delete."

FAQs

Who can manage Groups in the Subsplash Dashboard?

Only Dashboard Admins have permission to manage Groups in the Subsplash Dashboard

Why is a Public Group not showing in Discover/Group Finder?

Groups can take a few hours after moving to “Public” to show in Discover/Group Finder

Why does a user have an “Invited” tag in the Dashboard?

Most often, the user hasn’t logged into the messaging section in their app. If the user was invited from the Dashboard, they simply need to accept the invitation and login. In other cases, the invitation process wasn’t completed by the user. The best practice is to remove the user from the group and re-add them to trigger a new invitation.

Why can't a user see the group in conversations but is in the group on the Dashboard?

Make sure the user is logged into the correct account in their app or web, remove the user from the group, and re-add them.

Can you unban users?

Currently, there is no unban feature within the dashboard. To have a user unbanned, reach out to Support here.

The unban process is complex and may take some time to complete. Please be careful with who you ban.

Why is a user's Request-to-Join been accepted but the request is still in the app?

This is currently a visual issue in the system. Simply deny the request to clear it. This will not remove them from the group.

How long are messages saved in Subsplash Messaging?

Messages are saved for 6 months in Subsplash Messaging. This means that any member of a group will be able to scroll back through their conversations and see the last 6 months' worth of messages.

I accidentally deleted a group, can I recover it?

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to restore groups. You will need to create a new group to replace it.

How do I delete group types?

When deleting group types, please make sure you remove that group type from each group it is assigned to. If this isn't done, all of your groups will be hidden in the dashboard. If this happens, please reach out to Support.

How do I get out of a messaging login loop?

If you have added a webpage to your app through a link item or a Page Link, this will not work. Users will need to use the messaging icon at the top of the app, or you link Messaging in your app with the web messaging URLs - the app will automatically convert these to the in-app experience.

Does Subsplash Messaging have character limits?

Users can communicate through Messaging without any word or character limits! That means whether you are writing in the Group or on the Prayer Wall, you are not limited to how long your message can be.

Note: Group Descriptions are limited to 190 characters.

What is the file size limit for Messaging attachments?

The file size limit for Messaging attachments is 5MB. However, media of all sizes can be attached if the media items are hosted on the Subsplash dashboard.
