What is a “standalone app” and do I need to complete the Apple Developer account setup?

A standalone app is an app that has your own unique branding on the app icon. If you have this kind of app, then you will be required to set up your Apple Developer account and Subsplash will help!

Why do I need to do this in the first place?

Several years ago, Apple changed how their store operates in regards to apps that are on a template such as Subsplash. They are now requiring that the app lives on your organization's Apple Developer account that you'll need to create. Once the process is complete you don't have to worry, we will maintain the account and give service like we always have. And they let you request a fee waiver so you don't need to worry about paying any additional fees. Our article outlines the next steps and if there is anything on your mind please ask as we want to make this a smooth process for you.

How do I get started with the Apple Developer account?

To get started with the process, you’ll need an Apple ID (which is different from an Apple Developer Account) for your organization! To get started with that, just follow along with the instructions here.

How do I set up an Apple ID for my organization? It is asking for my name and birthdate.

Yes, even when you set up an Apple ID for your organization it needs to be tied to a first and last name and a birthdate, then you can use an organization email for the ID portion. Example: admin@amazingchurch.org. The idea here is to make sure that the email and password are accessible to your org in case you leave (you don’t want to lock others out of the apple dev center)

I got an error message, what do I do now?

For error messages concerning your DUNS number and legal entity status click here to contact Dun and Bradstreet. For all other error messages concerning the Apple Developer enrollment go here and choose Membership & Account to contact Apple directly.

Can I have more than one Subsplash app on my developer account?

Yes, you should be able to have several apps on one developer account. You'll need to use one organization to set up the account and it's best if it is the same one that you submit the tax info for the fee waiver. As an example, when you create a DUNS number, you also need to use that exact name to set up the developer account and apple will call to verify that it is a legal entity and later that org's info needs to be used for the fee waiver step. Here is our article that helps and there is a number for Apple at the bottom and they are great and responsive if you have any questions about the process.

How do I know if I’ve finished the process?

If you’ve set up your Apple Developer account, invited Subsplash to it, and requested a transfer and sent back the transfer information then you are all set. The rest is up to Subsplash! (note: you only need to request a transfer if you already have an app)!

I updated my DUNS number/D&B profile and I still get an error message when I enroll with Apple. What do I do?

It can take 2 days or more for the Apple system to recognize your updated D&B profile information. However, if the error persists, it would be best to contact Apple! You can contact Apple by going here and choose Membership & Account.

We already have an Apple Developer account, so what do we do?

If you already have an Apple Developer account, you can just skip to steps 4 and 5 of our Setting Up your Apple Developer account document!

How do I get in contact with Apple?

To contact Apple directly for support, go here and choose Membership & Account.

Where can I find my app key and what is an app key?

In order to find your App Key, just follow the instructions here!

I just received an email from Apple that my app has been approved, what do I do?

Subsplash receives the same email alerts about your account as you do, so no need to worry about anything here. You may still be waiting on other platforms to go live, we'll email you once you are live on all platforms.

I received an email from Apple with the subject line “Your iOS Distribution/Push will expire in 30 days,” what do I do about that?

There are two types of certificates for iOS applications: the iOS Distribution Certificate (required to update the app) and the Push Notification Certificate (required to send Push Notifications). Certificates expire yearly, and Apple sends the developer account notice 30 days before expiration to the Apple ID(s) associated with that developer account.

Thankfully, this doesn’t require any action on your part! Our team will ensure your certificates are renewed.

What is needed to maintain my Developer Account?

There are just two things needed for you to maintain:

1. Accept updated agreements/licenses in your Apple Developer Account

2. Renew your Membership to the Apple Developer Program once a year

*Apple will send an email to the Apple ID 30 days prior to any available agreements or membership expiration

My fee waiver was rejected, what now?

You can request to have the annual Apple Developer Program membership fee waived if you’re a nonprofit organization. If your request gets rejected by Apple, please email Apple with supporting documents, ideally from the IRS, proving that you are a non-profit. Check out Apple's article on eligibility here. You may also schedule a call with Apple to further discuss this here.

Which agreements do I need to accept?

There are two agreement sections - one for free apps and one for paid apps. You only need to make sure you keep up to date on the agreements for free apps in order to keep your app up and running. DO NOT accept the paid app agreement as this will label your account/app as such and limit our ability to maintain the app.

Where can I find my Apple Developer Email?

Your Apple Developer Email is the Apple ID you used when you enrolled in the Apple Developer Program. It may be an email address that already existed, or one that you created for this purpose. If you've already invited Subsplash to your developer account, you can likely find which email address you used in your Subsplash Dashboard under Settings > Developer Accounts. If you can't find it there, you can go to developer.apple.com, click on Account in the top navigation menu, and click on "Forgot Apple ID or Password".
