The Home Tab

A great way to connect with your audience: it can act as a billboard or hub for current events, media, and more.

The Home Tab is not a prebuilt tab that we offer, but rather a generally accepted approach to the first tab in the app that compiles relevant information and everything a user would need. Built using the Build your Own Tab.

The Basic Building Blocks

Creating a powerful home tab is simple! All of these ideas use a few simple building blocks.

Tabs:

These examples use either the Build Your Own tab or the Subtab tab. The Sunday tab and Ministry tabs use Build Your Own tabs, and the Connect tab and Multi-Campus tabs use Subtabs.

Lists:

Both the Build Your Own tab and Subtab tab are powered by lists. It can be helpful to give the list the same name as your tab. You can also build nested lists: for example, the Sunday tab includes a Weekly Scripture reading list within the Sunday tab list.

Fill in notes:

Notes are a great way to engage your congregation with fill-in notes or to create Bulletins, discussion questions, or other resources. To learn more about using Subsplash notes, check out this article.

Carousel header:

The carousel header is a beautiful way to display content in at the top of your tab. The Sunday and Ministry tabs use the carousel header.

Row, grid, and stacked views:

You can choose to display your tabs in row, grid, or stacked view. The grid and stacked views are a great way to prominently showcase artwork, and row view is a good way to show items numbered in order, by date, or simply just by name.

Different "Types" of Home Tabs

Sunday

The Sunday home tab is a great tool to help new visitors get connected and bring your users back to your app every Sunday!

Weekly Scripture reading:

The weekly scripture reading can be added seamlessly as a list item using Subsplash Notes, and pasting the scripture into a blank note. You can even keep the weekly scripture history by putting all the weekly readings into a numbered list, and linking that to your “weekly scripture” item on your home tab.

Church updates:

Record and release church updates using Notes as another list item, and set up another item with a form that asks for prayer requests.

Giving:

Connect people to your giving solution quickly and easily by naming an item “give” or “donate” and linking it to your giving site

Sermon notes:

Add an item linked to the notes feature for fill-in sermon notes or questions.

Most recent sermon:

On Mondays, you can link the most recent sermon to your home tab so your notes, scripture references, and sermon are all in one central place.

Prayer requests:

Another helpful resource is a link to view current prayer requests so community groups and the church community can read through prayer needs (and praises!) during the week.

Community group questions:

Lastly, link a list item to the Notes feature to post weekly thought-provoking questions for community groups to discuss!

The featured area at the top of your app can be used to showcase the current sermon series or link a “weekly updates” video.

Connect

The Connect tab is a great way to drive engagement and replace your paper connect cards or weekly bulletins.

Subtab 1: Connect:

The first subtab can act as a home base for your congregation to connect throughout the week. You can create a list that features the weekly bulletin, a connect card, a form for prayer requests/testimonials.

Subtab 2: Community groups:

Use this subtab to connect a list of community groups that people can join. Include the location and description of each group, as well as contact info.

Subtab 3: Serve:

Create a list with categories such as “Kids Ministry,” “Clean Up” or “Welcome Team” and connect forms to each category to encourage your members to serve.

Subtab 4: Classes:

Lastly, connect another list with items such as “Mid-Week Bible Study” or “Membership Classes ” that lead to forms where users can sign up.

Multi-Campus

Serving multiple campuses in one app can be tricky! A home tab is a great way to incorporate all your church campuses in your app in a way that allows you to have custom content for each location, without having to use an entire tab for each one.

In each location’s specific list or subtab:

Campus events:

Create a calendar to list campus events

Volunteer signup:

Connect a “Volunteer Signup” form to another list item in each location to hold sign-ups for volunteer opportunities.

Get connected:

Get people connected with their home church via a different item and a “Get Connected” form.

Ministries:

Connect an item with information and sign-ups for student and kids ministries.

Giving:

Link giving for each location into their individual list.

Ministry

We love that our platform offers the flexibility to serve many types of organizations extremely well! Here’s how ministries can make full use of a home tab:

Updates video:

Using the grid view base with a featured item bar at the top, you can link the featured item to a broadcast or “updates” video.

News:

Then, you can use the grid items below to link news, devotionals, and upload testimonial videos.

Submit a prayer request:

Using Subsplash forms, you can even let people submit questions about your ministry or the Gospel, or ask for prayer through your app!

Giving:

You can also use one of the list items to link your giving solution to your home screen so users can quickly and easily join you in your mission.

More Examples

  • Reach Church features its events calendar front and center in its Home tab.

  • Refuge Church uses its Home tab to display frequently accessed content, such as the current bulletin.

Conclusion

The trick to an engaging home tab experience is to keep the content fresh and relevant. We hope you feel inspired to build a great custom home tab that is simple, beautiful, and full of useful tools and information for your congregation!
