Subsplash Giving gives your donors the option to pay the processing fee that your organization would otherwise incur. With the click of a button, your donors can increase the size of their gift to cover these processing fees!

Configuring donor-Covered fees

Two settings within your Subsplash Dashboard relate to Donor-Covered Fees.

Donors can help cover fees

Once enabled (indicated by the blue toggle), your donors will be prompted with an option to cover processing fees before submitting their gift.

  1. Within the Giving Settings, locate the section titled Donors can help cover fees

  2. Toggle the setting On so that it is blue.

Default Covered Fees

When this feature is toggled on (shown with a blue toggle), the option to cover the fee will be selected by default. The donor may deselect the coverage option if desired.

  1. Within the Giving Settings, locate the section titled Donors can help cover fees

  2. Toggle the setting On so that it is blue.

How Donor-Covered Fees work

When a donor covers the processing fee, it is added to the net total of their gift. When the fee is eventually removed from the donor's net total, your organization receives the full amount the donor intended you to receive.

Calculations for Donor-Covered Fees

We are committed to keeping our fees transparent and accessible. Therefore, we’ve outlined the exact calculations used to determine your donor’s fees.

Fees are calculated on the gross amount of the gift. When a donor chooses to cover the fee, the gross amount increases, which results in a slightly higher fee than if the donor had not covered it. Here’s how donor-covered fees are calculated:

  • G = Gross Gift Amount (the amount the donor gives)

  • N = Net Gift Amount (the amount deposited into your bank account)

Donor Covers Fees w/ACH: G = N ÷ (1 - .01)

Donor Covers Fees w/Card (at 2.99%): G = (N + .30) ÷ (1 - .0299)

Fees not covered by donors will continue at the rate agreed upon when your organization partnered with Subsplash.

Understanding the tax-deductible amount

Regardless of whether a donor covers the fees or not, they must always be credited for the full amount that they pay. Every dollar that leaves a donor's bank when giving through Subsplash Giving is legally considered a donation towards your organization and should be counted as such.

Donor-Covered Fees & GrowCurve

GrowCurve reflects our commitment to offering the lowest gift processing rates in the industry. Donations where the donor does not cover the fee count toward GrowCurve, potentially generating a credit that lowers your overall effective rate. When a donor chooses to cover the fee, that transaction is not included in GrowCurve calculations.

When a donor chooses to cover the fee, it’s a significant help to your organization because they’re covering 100% of the processing cost. Additionally, as noted above, the full amount is tax-deductible for the donor.

Donor-Covered Fees & the Transfers report

The Transfer report will display the total Fees, the amount covered by the donors (in dollars and as a percent), and the number of gifts donors chose to cover the fees.

In addition, you'll now see a mark for every gift that has been covered in the transactions list:
