Configure the columns

Updated this week

You can easily select and arrange the specific data columns you want to display on the x- and y-axes of your Charts. When you first build a Chart, some measures or attributes may not be visible. You can add them to the axes by dragging these columns from the Not visualized section in the chart configuration menu to the appropriate axis, while following these guidelines:

  • Only attributes can be added to the x-axis.

  • Only measures can be added to the y-axis.

  • In the Chart Builder, attributes appear blue, and measures appear green.

The x- and y-axes on a bar chart work differently from other chart types. In bar charts, attributes are on the y-axis, and measures are on the x-axis.

Customizing Columns

To configure your chart, follow these steps:

  1. Select the layout icon on the right.

  2. Drag and drop your measures and attributes to meet your preference.

  3. Select Update.

Slice with Color

You can drag and drop attributes into the Slice with color section, which is available for certain Chart types if your search includes more than one attribute. Slicing with color allows you to break down data that is already grouped by one attribute into subcategories, visually separated by color, based on a second attribute in your search.

You can also drag and drop attributes into the Slice section, which only appears for scatter and bubble charts. This lets you break up data based on an additional column in your data. For scatter and bubble charts, you have the option to use both Slice and Slice with color.

Not visualized

You can also drag and drop attributes and measures to the Not visualized section. This removes them from the visualization but keeps them as part of your original search. You can move items to the Not visualized section by dragging and dropping them, or by selecting the X that appears when you hover over an attribute or measure in the Edit chart menu:

In some charts, the y-axis labels may appear on the left and right sides of the chart instead of stacked on the same side. This depends on the parameters of the analysis. Refer to changing the position of the axes and changing the grouping for more details.
