Why choose Spotify?
The first thing to determine is whether or not you have the proper licensing to share music through the app. The music licensing business can be complex and confusing, and there are many different levels of music licensing out there. If you're unsure about what you're allowed to share, you can check out 6 Myths about Copyrights, information about copyright law through CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International), and licensing information through ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers).
However, a good rule of thumb is if you did not write your own music, use Spotify so you don't have to worry about licensing rules!
Additionally, you can link to other music resources, however, Spotify is unique in that it allows you to build custom lists choosing which songs you want to use. You can also create multiple playlists and share them all through links on your Website and through the app.
How do I set up my account?
We recommend setting up a Spotify account for the church, music ministry (if it has its own name), or the worship pastor. Once you have the account created you can add in the church logo on the profile page, and get started putting together your playlist(s)!
Tip! There is no need to upgrade the free account to Spotify Premium as the upgrade is just to remove ads when listening to music. If you just need to set up the playlists, a free account will be just fine.
How do I add Spotify into my app?
Once you have set up your playlists, you can get started adding this content into your app! There are 2 ways you can add the music:
Adding via a playlist:
Adding via your profile:
Once you have the link copied, you can paste it into any link area, such as in your More tab or using Build Your Own. Make sure you set the link to open outside of the app by selecting External Web Browser. This is because Spotify requires a login system so they can appropriately attribute royalties to the artists, and they don't provide a login option for their mobile website. Using an external link will open the Spotify app for those who have it downloaded, and will allow new users to get started.
