When you do a true live stream with Subsplash Live, your stream recording is automatically saved and attached to an on-demand media item in your media library. If you need to make some edits there are a couple of options.

Trimming Tool

With our built-in trimming tool, you can trim off a portion from the start and/or end of the recording. This is helpful for simple edits, such as when you want to trim off a 5-minute countdown reel at the beginning of your stream. Once your live stream has concluded and the media item has transitioned into your on-demand media library, you can access the trimming tool from within the media item either by clicking on the edit pencil or the play button:

This will open the trimming theater, in which you can watch the stream recording and view a timeline of the video. Click and drag on the yellow handles or type in the specific times you want to use as the start and end of the trimmed video, and then click the blue “Trim video” button in the lower-right corner to generate the trimmed recording!

Replace the Recording

For more complex edits like trimming out a portion from the middle of the stream and splicing the two remaining parts together, or adding an intro/outro to the recording that wasn’t present during the actual stream, you will need to download the recording and make the changes on your computer using a video editing software (such as Adobe Premiere Pro).

Downloading a recording can be done through this menu:

Once you have made the changes you want, export the edited video from your editing software using our recommended export settings for on-demand media. This will produce an optimized file that you can then upload to your recent live stream to replace the original recording. First, you will need to open the same menu shown above and choose “Remove” to unlink the original recording from the media item. In the place of the media player that was showing the original recording, you’ll now see an interface for uploading your edited video or audio files, along with an option to revert to your live stream recording:

Once the file uploads and processes, you’ll have a media item that preserves your analytics from the original broadcast, but now plays the edited media file rather than the original recording.

If you want, you can even select a different live stream recording from your list of live media recordings. You can access this list by clicking on “browse recent” in the video or audio upload interface, which will open the recent media explorer. If you open it through the video upload interface specifically, you’ll see a “Recordings” tab that lists all of the live stream recordings you’ve created in our system:

If you record locally you can also use the remove/replace tool to replace the stream recording with your local recording!
