Subsplash Tap products are built on the foundation of our dynamic link items. You are likely already familiar with using the Subsplash Dashboard to manage your app’s links. Subsplash Tap products leverage that same powerful link infrastructure. By using dynamic links for your Subsplash Tap products, you gain the ultimate flexibility to update your digital call-to-action at any time without ever needing to replace your physical hardware.
Navigating to links
To begin managing or creating links for your Subsplash Tap products, follow these steps within your Subsplash Dashboard:
Log in to the Subsplash Dashboard.
On the left-hand sidebar, click on Library (just above Settings).
From the expanded menu, select Links.
Here, you can click Create Link or select an existing link to edit its properties.
Identifying Subsplash Tap links
Within your list of links, you can easily identify which ones are currently associated with a Tap Product by looking for the Tap Icon located to the right of the link title.
The Tap icon indicates that a link is actively assigned to a physical Tap product. We recommend naming your links based on their physical location (e.g., "Auditorium Tap - Left" or "Lobby Welcome Sign") so you can easily identify which physical product you are updating.
The power of dynamic links
Subsplash Tap links are dynamic, meaning the destination can be changed "on the fly" in a matter of moments.
If you have a Subsplash Tap product in your lobby that currently points to a "New Member Form," but you want it to point to a "Summer Camp Registration" for the next two weeks, you simply update the URL or Link Type in the dashboard. The change is instant. Anyone who taps that physical product will immediately be directed to the new destination.
Link types & use cases
Choosing the right link type ensures a smooth experience for your users and keeps your app compliant with App Store guidelines. Click here to learn more about the Link types available to you.
App Store Compliance
To prevent your app from being rejected or removed by Apple or Google, certain types of content must open in an external browser. Do not use an "Internal Browser" link type, like App Link or Page, for the following:
YouTube: Any links or embeds that allow a user to navigate to the YouTube platform.
Giving & Payments: Tithing, donations, or any form of purchasing.
Store references: References to App Store companies or logos (e.g., a Google Play badge or a photo of an iPhone).
Login walls: Features that require a user to log in to an external service.
Pandemic references: Any references to the pandemic or COVID-19 in any capacity.
Nested links: Any "rabbit trail" that eventually leads to the above (e.g., if your website links to Facebook, which then links to YouTube, it is considered non-compliant).
While it is technically possible to add multiple browser tabs, it is not recommended. App stores generally reject apps that consist primarily of web content rather than native app features.
Website
Behavior: Opens the provided URL in the device's default external browser.
Use case: Best for general web content that doesn't need to stay "inside" your app experience.
Video
Behavior: Opens the URL outside the app.
Use case: Specifically designed for YouTube or Vimeo links. Apple and Google require video platforms like these to open externally to comply with their store terms.
App link
Behavior: Opens the URL inside the app’s internal browser. If the user doesn't have your app installed, it gracefully falls back to the device's mobile browser.
Use case: Ideal for "Linktree-style" landing pages or multi-button menus.
If linking to a SnapPages page, the header and footer are automatically removed for the initial page. However, subsequent clicks may restore them. To maintain App Store compliance and a "contained" feel, limit external links on these pages.
Contact
Behavior: Prompts the user to immediately call or email using their device's native apps.
Use case: These are ideal if you want the user to take an immediate action to send an email or make a phone call.
Link format:
Phone:
tel:1-701-234-5555Email:
mailto:info@yourchurch.comText:
sms:5558881234
Page
Behavior: Quickly adds a page built in SnapPages as an internal browser page.
Use case: This is the most seamless way to show custom SnapPages content. It automatically removes headers/footers from subsequent pages to prevent unwanted "rabbit trails" or cross-site navigation. This link type enforces app-specific formatting, which may slightly alter your visual design to ensure it looks native to the app environment.
Giving or payments
Behavior: Functions like the Website link, forcing the URL to open outside the app.
Use case: Use this for any link related to donations, tithing, or event payments. It helps you easily verify from the backend that the link is categorized correctly for giving.
Subsplash Giving
Behavior: Mimics the behavior of the in-app Giving tab.
Use case: The user can select a fund and input an amount, but the final transaction is completed in the device's external browser. This ensures a secure, compliant checkout process that adheres to all App Store regulations.
